Hello and welcome to the Spring 2015 Up-Date for Woodsetts Quarry Pond. Over the last few weeks the carp have started to get active again and several of the stock fish that we introduced some two-and-a-half years ago have been banked at extremely good weights.
Carp that were introduced at 6 and 7lb are now being caught between 15lb and 16lb and that man Nigel Brazier has been amongst them again. Nige had a lovely 16lb 2oz carp just last week during a two day session from one of the bays. Full member Oliver Holden had a three fish hit recently, fishing overnight on a midweek session, with the best going high 16lb. Full member Lee Burgin also got amongst them with a single carp from first point.
The first netting took place a couple of weeks back and we successfully removed a number of very small pike from the lake in a bid to get a better balance on predator stock. Interestingly we didn’t get the numbers of silver fish that we had hoped for, so will be netting again later this year. With the carp growing a better balance on numbers will need to be achieved. One surprise on the netting was a pair of eels, one about 5lb the other 4lb!… plus a large mirror carp estimated to be just short of 30lb and not a known fish!!!
A reminder to all full members about forthcoming events… EA Rod Licences are due again at the end of the month. We now have regular patrols from the EA Enforcement team…please don’t get caught without one. Winter rule three rod fishing at night will also end at the end of March, as does pike fishing. There will be one further work party, which a date still needs to be set for. I will be in touch with those that still need to finish the one day in order to re-new their tickets for 2015/2016. It will probably take place once I get a date from the planning department for the erection of the new hut, which is being put up sometime in April/May I hope, sited to the right of first point in the barbeque area.
Further dates to bear in mind are ticket/syndicate renewal for 2015/2016, all monies and old permit cards need to be with me no later than Saturday May 23rd. The fee for 2015/2016 is £200. If you are not intending to renew, please let me know as soon as possible as I have a list of anglers waiting.
Another important date for this year is the weekend of 17/18/19th July when we are pleased to announce that Adam Penning will be at the lake all weekend and will be featuring a slideshow at the Innings Social Club in Worksop on the Friday night the 17th. Adam will then spend Saturday and Sunday on the lake with full members where he will spend time with each of you and answer any angling questions you might have…and even catch you a carp or two! Jake and Dan Wildbore will also be at the slideshow night where they will be demonstrating the range of products from Sticky Baits. Tickets are available now from either myself or Nigel Brazier and are priced at £5.
On Saturday the 18th July we will be having our annual barbeque on the lake and Adam Penning will be guest of honour. Due to the demand for places barbeque and fishing swims will need to be booked in advance…there will be a charge for this to cover the cost of Adam’s time…places will be charged at £6 for the Saturday on the lake, Saturday night fishing and barbeque. Please contact myself to book in… this is a members only event.
That just about covers everything for this month, have a good one and catch plenty.
