Hello and welcome to the latest update for Woodsetts Quarry Pond and it’s all go as the carp begin to wake from their winter slumber. Several carp have been caught over the last few weeks, in particular from the two shallow bays as you enter the site. One or two of the full members have been fishing short over-night and day sessions from both bays and have been rewarded for their efforts with up to three takes per session. Steve Wilkinson has had had one or two from the Lawn Swim including a lovely scaley 16lb mirror, while Adam Gardner and Oliver Holden have both caught from the Point Swim with carp going to 18lb.

Both new members in the last year, Warren and Lewis have also managed one or two from different areas around the bays, including a superb common of 17lb 2oz for Warren. Long term member Mark Barker also joined in on the captures list and bagged a superb mirror from the small bay weighing in at 16lb, during a very short day only session. Although most of the captures have been the stock fish that went in, several of the lake’s bigger residents have been spotted from the quarry wall, just lazing around in the sun. Andy Dann spent the day stalking carp, again in the bay areas and managed a lovely mirror of 17lb 5oz, a stock carp that went in some two-and-a-half years ago at 7lb 2oz!

Just a reminder, if you have forgotten, rod licences should have been purchased again by now. We are getting regular checks by the Environment Agency staff, so don’t get caught without one! The gate times have also changed and will now close at 7pm each evening throughout the summer months. Please also remember that those members wishing to bring non-member guests on for night fishing need to book their guest in 48 hrs prior to fishing. All guests must be booked in with myself prior to fishing. No non-members (excluding wives and partners) are to be on the lake after gate close unless booked in as a guest.

A date for your diary for later in the year… Friday July 17th 2015 we have Adam Penning coming up to Woodsetts for the weekend. Adam will be presenting a slide show at the Innings Social Club on the Friday night and then will be spending time with Woodsetts members at the lake through Saturday and Sunday. We will also be holding our annual barbeque on Saturday 18th July from 6pm! As I expect this event to be quite busy, slide show tickets and weekend fishing have to be booked to ensure a place. The cost for the slide show and the Saturday lakeside tuition with Adam Penning will be £5 for the slide show and £5 for the bivvy plot for the weekend. This will all go towards the total cost for the weekend.

Every member is welcome to attend the barbeque on the Saturday evening, but do remember that Friday night bivvy space and Saturday night bivvy space and fishing for Friday and Saturday has to be booked in with me in advance. There will be a draw for bivvy plots on the Friday at 12 noon, if you can’t make the draw, then make me aware of the preferred swim choice and I will draw for you.

As the summer draws in we will inevitably have an increase in members of the public using the lake, so please look out for rubbish and make visitors aware of the fishery rules. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints!
Have a good month.
