Once again it’s been a hectic year at Woodsetts with several new stock fish being introduced in-line with the structured plans for the fishery. The carp stock, are growing well, and the average size increases each year, currently being around 18lb. There is a big head of 14-15lb stock carp that will happily feed over large areas of bait if you’re prepared to put it in. On the bait front, we get several questions regarding which bait to use? Fishmeal boilies are the answer at Woodsetts, with Krill, Bloodworm and Tuna being three popular choices. Pop-ups also work well over a small-bed of free offerings of boilies. A lot of carp will show on the three-quarter line at the lower end of the lake…if they do, cast a bait at them! Visiting anglers need to gear up for these fish and 15lb mainline is a requirement of the fishery rules if you are carp fishing. Please remember that all rig set-ups must be safe and the lead must be able to leave the line in the event of a snag up. Woodsetts is strictly a two-rod only water. Please, also make sure you have a carp care kit…look after your catch because someone else will catch it next time!

This summer has seen the removal of some of the bigger snags in Woodsetts and in recent weeks we have had a dive team in to remove all manner of tree roots, metal work and rubbish from the lake bed. There are still one or two main snags in Woodsetts that cannot be removed and these are clearly marked with orange marker poles…so please steer clear of these. The site has also undergone a massive swim refurb and all swims have been designed with the carp angler in mind and offer comfortable fishing. Please don’t park on the swims if you are a day visitor, use the parking bays behind the swim. Please also remember that fishing is from the swims only and not from any other banks area around the lake. We get many enquiries about night fishing, sorry this is for syndicate members only. You can apply for a syndicate place elsewhere on this website. Syndicate places are available on a yearly basis and run from June 1st until end of May the following year. Alternatively, why not join our winter syndicate! This runs from October 1st until end of March the following year, giving six months fishing on the same level as a full member…including nights. Details can be found on the application page.

It’s not just carp fishing that Woodsetts offers, the silver fish sport can be hectic and bags of 30-40lb of tench, roach, rudd and skimmers are common. From October 1st each year Woodsetts also offers some fantastic pike fishing sport and we do operate a winter pike season ticket or day ticket pike fishing. See application page for details.

We hope you like our new look web site, have a good year.
